This was a radical re-imagining of the 90’s musical, originally based on the Verdi opera of the same name. I devised a very abstract modular set, deconstructing the form of a pyramid to create a stark, sculptural palette for the piece. The main components of this were a towering neon pyramid, representing the might of Egypt and a number of smaller moveable prisms that could be front lit to resemble stone or backlit to create intimate scenes within. The edges of each piece were mounted with a series of programmable LED tubes to create some amazing, bold lighting effects and the overall modern rock aesthetic that served Luis Salgado’s vision for this world.
