THE JUNGLE CROUCHED, HUMPED IN SILENCE
CHOREOGRAPHER: PATRICIA OKENWA
COMPOSER: PHILIP GLASS
SET/LIGHTING DESIGN: KATE RANCE
COSTUME DESIGN: KATE RANCE
VENUE: COCHRANE THEATRE
YEAR: 2000
This powerful dance piece, Choreographed by Patrica Okenwa and danced by 2 members of the Rambert School is based on ‘The Grass is Singing’ by Doris Lessing. I used a sparse stage with bold lighting and the gradual removal of items of clothing to signify the women’s increasing dependence and vulnerability and the overwhelming dominance and power of the African landscape.
