‘THE JUNGLE CROUCHED, HUMPED IN SILENCE’
CHOREOGRAPHER: PATRICIA OKENWA
SET & LIGHTING: KATE RANCE
COSTUME DESIGN: KATE RANCE
VENUE: COCHRANE THEATRE, LONDON
COMPANY: RAMBERT BALLET SCHOOL
This powerful dance piece, Choreographed by Patrica Okenwa and danced by 2 members of the Rambert School is based on ‘The Grass is Singing’ by Doris Lessing. I used a sparse stage with bold lighting and the gradual removal of items of clothing to signify the women’s increasing dependence and vulnerability and the overwhelming dominance and power of the African landscape.
