“Zuccotti Park” is a musical about the human side of economics. Set at its namesake location in New York City during the Occupy protests of late 2011, the play dramatizes the experiences of a broad cross section of Americans whose lives were impacted by the current economic system. Using the real Zuccotti Park for reference, I created a simple versatile set comprising blocks of various sizes, painted to look like polished granite that could be configured in different ways. We also had a large number of cardboard signs, boxes and pieces of plastic sheet that were moved around and used in a variety of different ways, representing the Zuccotti Park Protest/settlement. This show had 2 different festival runs, with variations to accommodate the different venues.
