These were two early iterations of the design I created for this radical re-imagining of the 90’s musical. Based on some initial thoughts from Director Luis Salgado, I first designed a very simple, ethereal set, using a lot of fabrics to create different textural and landscape elements, and also incorporated projection for key scenes. Following on from this, we moved towards something more sculptural, with a grandeur and presence that represented the might of Eygpt. This contrasted with the use of fabrics in the set, creating movement, lightness and a visual counterpoint to the solidity of the structure. The set that evolved from these designs and was ultimately realized is available in the main Theatre section.
