This adaptation of Ibsen’s ‘An Enemy of the People’ called for elements grounding the piece in its original period, within a framework of stark modernism. I undertook both set, props and costume design for this piece, enabling me to create a complete and detailed vision of the piece. For the set, I created a series of black silk-lined cases, reminiscent of Victorian Memento Mori, containing every prop used in the production. For each scene the actors would carefully unpack the case, create their scene within the very simple set and, once concluded, return them to their places to become dead objects once more.
