In this piece, twisting irregular drapes mimic the forms of a traditional Proscenium Arch and restrict the space, oppressing and restricting the characters and their environment. All the props and furniture from the production formed a huge sculptural pile, dominating the stage at the top of the show. The characters would remove the items needed for each scene, thereby gradually breaking it down to ultimately leave the stage bare. In conjunction with this, I created a series of projected images for the show. Static images of walls, concrete, brick for the ‘adult’ scenes and rapid, stream-of-consciousness sequences showing the frenetic, repressed energy of the scenes with just the young characters.
